Developing and following a treatment plan in early sobriety is extremely important. Many different resources are available to help you develop a plan. Some resources include a rehab center, counselor, spiritual adviser and a sponsor acquired from 12 step recovery groups.
Some issues to be considered while making your plan are:
1. Your length of stay at a drug and/or alcohol rehab center. Some factors to take into consideration while making this decision are the substance or substances you are addicted to and the length of time you have been active in your addiction.
2. Are there any mental health issues, which need to be addressed? Often times symptoms of mental illness closely resemble those of addiction and remain undiagnosed to the detriment of the individual.
3. Existing relationships will need to be examined while developing a treatment plan. Our behaviors in addiction often cause rifts within the family. Some distance, whether physically or emotional may be helpful early on.
4. Scheduling and keeping doctor’s appointments is an important first step in early recovery. Chances are we have ignored personal health issues during our active addictions.
5. Creating a weekly list of recovery support meetings and sticking to it. Many recovery programs require the individual in early recovery to attend a 12 step meeting daily. 90 meetings in 90 days is generally a good start towards the goal of long term sobriety.
These are simply of a few items you may want to incorporate in your treatment plan. See a professional in order to develop a thorough treatment plan.
