Rehab is an option that many individuals have as an option when dealing with alcohol addiction. You may have some preconceived notions about what you can or cannot expect from a Florida alcohol rehabilitation center.
The first thing to know is that a rehabilitation center is not a prison. The doors are not locked and you cannot be forced to remain there against your will, even if in a court-ordered program. You may deal with consequences at a later date if you don’t follow through with the treatment, but staying in the facility is your personal choice. The reasoning for this is because rehab doesn’t work if you aren’t willing to commit to the treatment program.
Some facilities may require you to complete a detoxification program before entering rehab. This is because the process of withdrawal can be difficult, and some facilities are not properly equipped to handle the process, which typically lasts anywhere from five to seven days.
Getting Sober
Alcohol rehab facilities focus on education and support to help you get and remain clean and sober. The primary goal is to encourage you to look at your attitudes and behaviors with an open and honest mind. The beginning stages of treatment typically focus on showing just how serious the problem actually is. Many addicts are in denial about the seriousness of their addiction and fail to see how negatively it is affecting not only them, but their friends and family members too.
Therapy and Counseling
While in a Florida alcohol rehab center, a large part of therapy is focused on support from a trained counselor. You’ll also participate in group therapy sessions with others that are also in treatment for their addictions. The focus of the counseling sessions is on how to live a life without alcohol and how to notice the situations which most commonly lead to you using alcohol. In some situations, it may also be beneficial to include family members in the counseling and therapy sessions.
Relapse Prevention
The typical Florida alcohol rehab program lasts for 28 days. After learning about addiction and how to stay sober, it is time to put the knowledge to the test in the “real world.” An aftercare program focuses on your individual needs to ensure that you can continue on your journey to recovery. This can include moving into a halfway house, following a 12 step program and checking in with your counselor.
