A study released by the National Institute on Drug Abuse recently revealed that Soboxone (buprenorphine plus naloxone) treatment was an effective treatment for individuals dependent on prescription opioid drugs. “The study suggests that patients addicted to prescription opioid painkillers can be effectively treated in primary care settings using Suboxone,” NIDA Director Nora D. Volkow, MD, said in a news release. “However, once the medication was discontinued, patients had a high rate of relapse—so more research is needed to determine how to sustain recovery among patients addicted to opioid medications.”
What does this mean for you? Must an individual await a new study to find their path to recovery? Absolutely not, best practices of any treatment provider suggest utilization of all relevant, pertinent effective medical advances. This includes the use of a detoxification process utilizing Soboxone for those that require it, followed by a rehabilitation program coupled with a formidable recovery itinerary.
