Equine Therapy

"Therapeutic Riding" originated in Germany as a means to treat various orthopedic conditions.  The physician would team with a physiotherapist and a horse trainer, over a one year period, to address the patients' strength and condition.  In the 1990s The Netherlands introduced a slightly different form of equine therapy known as "wagon-bed riding"
The concept of Equine Therapy soon caught on in the United States as the "North American Riding for the Handicapped Association" (NARHA) was formed.  The NARHA provides a wide range of services for those with disabilities.  "The Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association" (EAGALA) was formed with a focus more on the mental health potential of Equine Therapy.  Beachway Therapy Center utilizes the latest, proven methods as they lead the individual on their path to recovery.
