Credibility, Accountability & Licensing

The Last Resort Recovery Program is on the forefront of bringing Recovery services to folks with alcohol and other illicit drug challenges. Our approach is termed, Peer-Based Recovery Support (P-BRS) and Peer-Based Recovery Support Services (P-BRSS). Until recently research has been limited on the approach. Yet the approach has a history of over 275 years. For a comprehensive monograph of the approach we have attached Peer-based Addiction Recovery Support: History, Theory, Practice, and Scientific Evaluation. By the esteemed and most prominent leader in Recovery based research, William L. White, MA for the Great Lakes Addiction Technology Transfer Center and the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation Services. Read the Monograph at Google Docs by clicking here.

Our Founder Dan Callahan, MSW has been working within this framework for more than twenty years. His own recovery journey has lead the way for the development of the Real Life Recovery approach that is utilized by The Last Resort Recovery Program. Additionally, Dan does hold a Masters Degree from Fordham University in Social Work and during his tenure in New York State remained a Licensed Professional.

Dan’s experience encompasses program development, program implementation and direct care in the human service arena. The Last Resort Recovery staff members have significant professional experience yet most importantly we are Peers that have walked the walk of addiction to recovery. We live the Recovered Life! Additionally, this is a link to a 30-minute video of research by Professor Keith Humphreys: SFF Presentation (Importance of Mutual Support Recovery Groups on Recovery) May 09 (FEAD film). Currently Dr. Keith Humphreys is a Professor of Psychiatry, at Stanford University.

One may ask is The Last Resort recovery Program a licensed treatment facility? This is certainly a legitimate question. The answer is no, we are exempt from licensing in the State of Florida and the United States due to a number of factors. However, as you can deduct from the cited studies and our long, successful history our approach will produce the result you seek. Relief from addiction!
